After several months waiting for the DEQ to endorse the new pump that was installed in the new well as a part of the otherwise complete tank and well project accomplished last summer with a grant from the state, the agency has yet to approve Pine Haven’s request. FFA advisor and MHS agricultural teacher Hugh Jenkins has been soliciting the Moorcroft Town Council for a variance to the ordinance regarding livestock in town and the body has responded favorably. At the meeting last Monday, the council heard again Jenkins' case, "I've got some town kids who really would benefit from having [fair] livestock projects." After last week’s meeting of the council, Public Works Director Cory Allison was directed to stop all work by Black Hills Energy within town limits until the myriad complaints about the sub-par work by their contractor, E&S, are addressed. Carl Mirich passed away at his home on May 13, 2019, after battling for several years with pulmonary and cardiac health complications. Carl was born October 10, 1941, at his grandparent's home in Upton, WY, to Geraldine and Steven Mirich. He was raised on the family ranch just outside of Upton. Carl graduated from Upton High School, and went on to continue his education at Sheridan College and Black Hills State College. Arlyce Gimbel, 77, Eureka, SD, died Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center. Graveside services was at Hoffnungstal Cemetery near Eureka led by Pastor Ryan Gage. Arlyce Mae Jeschke, daughter of Golda (Semmler) and Reuben Jeschke, was born east of Roscoe, SD on July 21, 1941. Man charged with murder in mother’s death CHEYENNE (WNE) — A Cheyenne man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his 80-year-old mother. If convicted, James Wallace, 48, faces a maximum penalty of life in prison or the death penalty. His mother, Carol Wallace, was found dead last week in the home the two shared. Around 115 fifth graders from Hulett, Sundance and Moorcroft schools attended the second annual North East Wyoming Walleye Association (NEWWA)’s fishing education day last Tuesday. Crook County first graders from Hulett, Moorcroft and Sundance made their annual trek to Devils Tower National Monument for the 14th annual Wyoming Reads celebration in Crook County. It was a gorgeous day to enjoy the natural history of Devils Tower with a hike around it. Youth age 0 through high school are invited to the fifth annual WSG Hulett Youth Field Day Saturday, June 1 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Highway 24 one-half mile from Hulett. Fifty of Moorcroft's eighth graders participated in an archaeological dig last Wednesday as part of their study of time, fossils and archaeology. Teacher Shanna Kinnick explained that the students had to apply for their positions on the dig with resumes and letters of interest simulating a real application. Former principal Dale Petersen assisted in preparing the "site", donating time over the previous weekend to bury the bones and artifacts.
