  • After the storm

    Dec 22, 2022

Last week saw roads closed and fog, snow and wind that affected visibility and forced school closures, with no unnecessary travel for a number of days. There are always the diehards, though; intrepid adventurers who greet the first signs of a storm's end with gusto and a toboggan. They travel to the school yard hill to feel the bitter breeze on their cheeks as they glide their sleds down the drifts before climbing to do it all again. These youngsters head home as afternoon temperatures begin to...

  • Lighting up the night

    Krissy Hinkhouse|Dec 22, 2022

Despite Winter Storm Diaz trying to rain...or rather snow...on our parade, Moorcroft Chamber of Commerce had a great turnout for the Parade of Lights. With the light poles down Big Horn Avenue decorated and lit up and piles of snow along the parade route, it was a true winter wonderland. The amount of effort and care put in to each float was evident. Kids' faces lit up with each entry that rolled by. From the chains that jingled like bells on the Thomas Family Christmas horse team wagon, to the...

  • Clarification

    Dec 22, 2022

In last week’s issue, in the article regarding the Knotty Pines subdivision, we quoted a member of the Pine Haven Volunteer Fire Department’s concerns that the person who drew up the site plans 13 years ago is now the head of the agency that approves said plans. This information was not correct. According to a spokesperson for the Department of Environmental Quality, the person who drew up the plans is now an employee of the water division and has had no part in reviewing the plans, having placed another engineer in charge of that task to avo...

  • Protecting first responders

    Grace Moore|Dec 22, 2022

The Pine Haven Volunteer Fire Department has been vigorously updating and upgrading their personal protective gear and vehicles as well as bringing in more volunteers over the last couple of years. This endeavor is expensive and the department is always moving forward with protecting those protecting the community. To this end, the department again sought permission from council to seek grant funding from the Wyoming State Forestry. This grant provided many of the needed bunker gear for the firefighters last year and Chief TJ Gideon was able,...

CASPER — In the upcoming legislative session, state lawmakers will again take up a slate of bills that aim to reform Wyoming’s elections and campaigns. Some of the bills will be reruns of legislation that popped up in the past. Others, like one that would hone regulations around federal PACs, have come about as the result of new information that emerged in this year’s midterm elections. Another would put into state statute security measures around election equipment that Wyoming already undertakes voluntarily. Lawmakers on the corpo...
