Feeling brave? Wyomingites who boast both a desire to support Special Olympics and a particularly hardy constitution will gather at Keyhole Reservoir on March 2 to fling themselves into the freezing water and raise money for this year's Jackalope Jump.
The idea is simple: participants will dress in crazy costumes and leap into the icy depths of the reservoir, having fundraised or donated a minimum of $100 for the privilege of doing so (or $50 per person if joining as a team of five or more). The goal is to raise money for local and statewide Special Olympics Wyoming programs.
"These fundraisers are family-friendly, community events bringing together local residents, friends from neighboring towns, as well as courageous individuals of all ages who represent caring companies, civic organizations, local schools and law enforcement," said Erin Gamroth, Special Events Manager for Special Olympics Wyoming, in a press release.
Keyhole is one of 16 jumps scheduled across the state. Not sure you can summon the courage to dive into the water yourself? Spectators are also encouraged to attend to lend their cheers of support to the "below zero heroes".
Plaques will be handed out to participants in several categories, including best costume, most money raised by an athlete, team or individual and largest team jump. Fundraising above the minimum may also net you a prize.
