MTC board asked to improve communication

The MTC board was asked to communicate more directly with the town during the Moorcroft Council meeting Monday night. The board is currently installing washer/dryer units in the janitor's room; however, the room will need electrical work and an opening for ventilation of the dryer.

Public Works Director Cory Allison is in charge of the MTC budget and he exclaimed that no one had told him about the situation and said, "I should have been the first one you told because it's coming out of my budget. If I don't have the money in it, we're not going to do it. This has been kind of a thorn in my side for quite a while; I don't want this coming back and biting me."

On the other side of the issue of the over draw on the MTC budget is that the ADA entrance on the east side rebuilt last summer was incorrectly coded, according to Councilman Owen Mathews. With the correction of that coding, the budget will be better balanced.

“I understand that you [Allison] have a budget and I understand that you guys [the MTC board] are trying to do something, but it’s something we have to do together,” he said.

Councilman Paul Smoot advised giving the board their own operational budget so they can manage their plans for the MTC accordingly.

“Right now you don’t really realize that little job (installing the washer and dryer) is going to cost $3000,” he said. He supported the board taking over the fiscal responsibility of the building.

Clerk/Treasurer Cheryl Schneider asked MTC board chairperson Nancy Feehan about the listing of items for sale, such as the lockers along the halls and in the gymnasium area, as surplus. These belong to the town and must be sold by bid, she said.

The two subsequently came together to go through the process. The list of items will be submitted to the body before advertising begins.

“Some of these things,” Mathews said to Feehan on behalf of the council, “instead of them being a surprise, should be communicated to us ahead of time.”

He asked that the board keep better line of communication between all parties in the future.
