Asking for a dog club

Recently Moorcroft resident Elise Buhler and Kramer the dog addressed the town council with a request for a variance allowing dogs into the MTC with the goal of starting a dog club.

At this first meeting, she spoke in generalities, without a plan and unable to answer many of the questions of the body; however, she returned later with a more concrete concept of the club and could better answer the council's concerns including the purpose, which will be centered on socialization of both the dogs and their owners.

"It would be a positive place for our teen and young children," she said.

Buhler hopes to build a community membership, enjoying hikes, swimming, sled and keg pulls among other seasonal activities and raising money for a dog park in the foreseeable future.

She had set up sound rules and release forms, having worked with the previously given advise from the body.

The greatest concern expressed by the governing body is the very real chance of aggressive or dangerous behavior from a dog that can harm another animal or a person.

The council advised Buhler to see about bonding and insurance for the club as the town will not accept responsibility. She must also go before the MTC board with her idea and ascertain their thoughts on the idea including a plan for the safety of the current occupants of the building before the governing body will consider this request.
