Dear Editor,

Moorcroft Town Council is looking to borrow money again; hundreds of thousands of dollars to remodel part of the old school building on the edge of town so they can expand the town offices including the police department. Close and sell the property on Big Horn Avenue for who knows what.

The majority of residents in Moorcroft are not happy with this plan. Now the council is considering condemning the rest of that block, tear out what’s left of the original buildings, no plans what to do with the property, more empty trashy lots.

I would like to offer an idea to maintain the center of Moorcroft in the established business area. Move the police department to the old school building, all the offices, parking and storage areas they need and privacy to move out of sight of the public.

The current building would allow more storage and desks to accommodate the various duties of the clerks. I understand they have a part time helper to be available when needed. The meeting room is still adequate and comfortable for public meetings and the maintenance department has a private office in that building.

The medical clinic and pharmacy, post office, museum, shopping, library, the old bank building restored, a dentist’s office, a beauty salon and senior center in the making, the VFW Club, a couple of bars and a new business moving in are all established by mostly home town folks, as well as the BNSF Rail Road that put Moorcroft on the map, city park with a veteran memorial and the original flag staff at the south end of Big Horn Avenue - Main Street in Moorcroft.
