In need of a lift

Early Tuesday morning, the long-awaited derrick was set up and tied down as the crew prepared to lift out the pump and motor from the Madison well. The well stopped pumping water to the town's tank last month and this was the first week the ground was dry enough for the crew to get the equipment from the former site to this. Public Works will ascertain the reason why the well has ceased production. The assumption at this point is the death of the pump which, according to Mayor Dick Claar, is approximately nine years. If the pump is the culprit, it will be refurbished to stand as back-up for the new one that will be installed.
