Construction season approaches

As June approaches, Moorcroft prepares for another busy construction season as the town finally rolls into the last phases of bringing the town’s infrastructure up to date.

Powder River Sewer project

The Powder River Sewer project is out for pre-bids now, according to Mayor Dick Claar. “We met and went over the project with the contractors who bid on it,” he says. He anticipates completion of this project this summer.

Lagoon project

Claar says the DEQ passed the lagoon project recently: “We’re going to clean it out, put in new aerators, new baffles [etc.], to get better retainage time of the material moving through there so we don’t have as many discharge violations.” He opines that this project will not be done this summer.

Powder River Water project

“We’re going for a quarter of the total Powder River Water project construction cost at SLIB in June,” the mayor reports. This project has already gone through design and, if accepted at SLIB, will go to bid for construction next spring. Claar anticipates a favorable result without raising water rates because of the loans the town has been able to repay recently.

Parks

The council has asked Public Works Director Cory Allison to begin plans for a sand volleyball pit at Robinson’s Park when the weather permits and the mayor hopes to speak with “a couple of companies to give us some quotes on a water park feature or a splash pad and see what we can do to start that”.
