Storm brings high winds through Moorcroft

torms have rampaged through the Moorcroft and Pine Haven communities this summer with lightning, thunder, rain and, oft times, hail. Fortunately, the damage has been relatively minimal throughout Moorcroft and Pine Haven with winds bringing down tree branches being the worst reports.

Sunday night’s encore brought down a large branch from an Elm tree in the town’s easement on Sisson Street, the rotted limb succumbing to the ferocity of the wind.

Homeowner Linda Buss thinks that the lightning may have done the damage, but is waiting to hear from the contractor who will cut away the deadfall. The branch took out the fencing between the Buss/Aloisio property and Rosalie Brimmer’s yard and flower beds, landing within a couple of feet of her car.

Moorcroft Public Works Director Cory Allison had the tree cutting contractor on site Monday afternoon and the branch removed within two hours. He told Buss and later, Allison that the tree was healthy enough to remain for now. Public works removed the debris after the contractor cut the branch into manageable pieces; the cost of which was $550.

Besides the tree damage, he stated that the high wind rolled a few of the commercial sized garbage receptacles around and felled a porta potty, but nothing more serious turned up from this storm. Police Chief Doug “Red” Lundborg reported no other problems in Moorcroft and Pine Haven had no notable issues either.
