First meet of season

We have a small but tough Cross Country team this year with six athletes; three middle school girls, two high school girls and one high school young man who is home-schooled.

These young people have been running in the heat and been nibbled on by mosquitoes without complaint. I have all the team that I need in these six athletes. I wish them nothing but the best throughout the season.

On Friday, August 30, the Cross Country team showed up at the Casper Mountain Beartrap Invite.  Four of the six were eligible to compete at this event having completed ten practices.  Here are the results for that meet.

Mallory Jones placed eighth in the middle school girls’ 3000 meter race with the time of 15:01.64. This young miss looked as fresh ending the race as she did starting the race; once the nervous jitters were gone, she was all business.

In the girls’ varsity 5000 meter race, Hailey Jones finished 15th with the time of 22:34.12. This was a good first meet time, especially running in elevation and tackling steeper hills than we have available to us at home.

Katelynn Blakeman ran with the big kids and held her own, finishing in 58th place and crossing the finish line with the time of 26:57.39. Katelynn has a big heart and a no-quit attitude, I expect to see great things from this young lady.

Our only male on the team, Caeden Reeves, ran his race with shin splints. He did his best, did not quit and finished the race.  He had a time of 27:00.80 for the men’s 5000 meter race. Once we get him healed, he’ll enjoy the run so much more.

I am tickled to have these youngsters out for Cross Country.  On Friday, September 6, the Moorcroft Cross Country team will compete at the Hardin Invite at Crow Agency, MT.
