Cross Country Wolves run in State Preview invite

This weekend, the Wolves Cross Country Team made a long trek to Star Valley to run in the State Preview invite.  This was a high school meet only and we carried three to Afton.

The trip itself became a bonding experience that I, as their coach, enjoyed tremendously.  The kids have become more than students and runners, they are a group of people whom I enjoy being with.

The course was filled with rolling hills and thick grass and is a tougher, slower race.  The weather was beautiful for a race through the course.

In the Junior Varsity races, Katelynn Blakeman ran the 5000 meter course in 27:53.70, finishing in the middle of the pack. Caeden Reeves had been under doctor’s direction not to run and was released the day before the meet. He had been working hard doing workouts that kept him from “pounding the pavement” and finished his first race in two weeks in 28:05.43, finishing the race with an impressively strong kick.

Hailey Jones ran the varsity 5000 meter race in spikes and beat the course time with the time of  21:12.24.

The Cross Country kids ran against mostly larger schools and showcased that they can compete against the entire state with pride. The Wolves head to Sheridan on Saturday, September 21 at 10 a.m. and Rapid City on Friday, September 27 at 1 p.m. We’d love to see you there.
