Neighbors helping neighbors this holiday season

On Sunday, November 24, Thanksgiving food baskets will be available for pickup at the First Presbyterian Church on the corner of Converse and South Belle Fourche Avenue. For those who cannot get to the pickup site, delivery is available.

One of the distribution organizers, Pastor Monte Reichenberg, says that many families who have availed themselves of this assistance in the past find themselves “in a better place this year” so he expects around 45 boxes to be distributed this season as opposed to the “mid 50s” of last year.

As always, the boxes are chock full of items from which a delicious Thanksgiving meal can be prepared, and even a bit extra. Reichenberg credits the Moorcroft Interfaith Community for spearheading the food baskets this year with associated congregations including the Latter Day Saints, Cornerstone Ministries, First Presbyterian Church, Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church and Pine Ridge Community Church. PRECorp Foundation, Diehl’s Supermarket, Moorcroft Chamber of Commerce, Jim McLeland and other local individuals also donated food and cash.

“It is great to see how the community comes together to give a boost to those needing a little extra help,” he says.

If anyone would like to help by contributing, they may make a check out to MIC, P.O. Box 1056, Moorcroft, WY 82721. Recognizing that hunger is not a problem only for the holidays, the MIC Food Pantry is open on the first and third Thursday of each month from 4-6 p.m. or by appointment (contact Reichenberg at [email protected] or 217-251-1182). Anyone in Crook County or close by such as Upton or Rozet are welcome to come and get food help.
