Great start for Lady Wolves

On Tuesday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Hot Springs for the first round of the West River Tournament to face the Hot Springs Lady Bison. The Wolves got off to a good start and were able to take a 33-19 lead into the half.

The team got into some foul trouble in the third quarter and had to make some adjustments to the defense Hot Springs was playing and were able to get key buckets and defensive stops when they needed it to win the game, 54-40.

On Friday morning, the Lady Wolves Junior Varsity team traveled to Newell for a morning contest and played well throughout the game, but Newell ended up tying it up at the end and sending the game into overtime. The Lady Wolves continued to battle, but dropped the game by two in the closing seconds.

On Friday, the semi-final game saw the Wolves against the Edgemont Lady Moguls. The Wolves got out of the gates quickly and put double figures up in each quarter while getting a 59-32 victory.

We really did a good job with our full court pressure and that lead to some transition baskets. We also shot it well from the outside while hitting ten three-pointers in the game. We got good looks and knocked down the open shots.

On Saturday, the championship game of the West River Tournament found the Wolves against the Faith Longhorns. We knew going in they were having a good season and that we would have to execute on the offensive and defensive ends.

The Lady Wolves got out fast in the first quarter and were leading, 13-9. We slowed in the second quarter and they were able to get some easy baskets. The Longhorns lead, 27-18 at half.

The Wolves continued to battle, but ended up losing the game, 64-35. We were a little inconsistent at times and they are a good team that will and did capitalize on that.

Overall, I thought we had a great tournament and a total team effort. We are continuing to develop a cohesiveness and consistency that we will need to have as we start conference play this week. I was very proud of how all the girls competed this weekend and how we played on the road.

The Lady Wolves are on the road Friday, when they take on Big Horn and Saturday, when they are in Wright. Come out and support your Moorcroft Wolves!
