A good weekend for Lady Wolves

On Tuesday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Sundance to take on the Bulldogs. The Junior Varsity team was first up. The game was back and forth until the second half when the Wolves were able to take a lead and never relinquish it while winning the game, 43-34.

The Varsity game followed and we knew going in that they are a physical team with good size. Boxing out was a key for us and trying to keep them in front of us was another key.

The Lady Wolves got out to a good start, but were not able to get some distance until the second quarter. The Wolves lead, 35-16, going into the half.

The second half was also back and forth before the Wolves were able to close out the game with a 58-41 victory. It is good to get a win on the road in a good, competitive environment. I thought we did well with our keys for the game and doing what we needed to do.

On Thursday, the Lady Wolves went to Yoder to take on the Southeast Cyclones. The Varsity was the first game and saw the Cyclones quickly get a 22-13 lead.

The Wolves didn’t quit and picked up the defensive intensity. We were able to convert on the offensive end with our defensive pressure and the Wolves went on a 15-2 run to end the first half.

The second half was all Lady Wolves as they won the game, 55-40. It was a very physical game and we responded well to that physicality.

We didn’t get down on ourselves when we were behind and that helped us win the game. The JV team played a half following the Varsity game and with good defense and execution on the offensive end at the closing of the game won, 17-15.

The Lady Wolves’ last game of the week was on Saturday at home versus the Tongue River Eagles. The JV team started off and the game was very close.

The Wolves were able to get a lead before Tongue River closed out the game with a 27-26 victory over the Wolves. Coach Hulm was proud of the effort and thought there were a couple things that can be discussed and worked on in practice to help close the game out at the end.

The Varsity was up next. The Wolves came out with great energy and got after the Eagles defensively. The Lady Wolves closed out the half up 37-23.

They didn’t look back in the second half, closing the game out with a 67-38 victory. Our defensive pressure lead to turnovers and created what we needed it to. It was great to be at home, in front of our crowd. We haven’t had a home game since January 4, so it was great.

Overall, it was a good week for us. Playing two games on the road and one at home is a good experience. We had limited practices so trying to get everything installed was key. The girls come to practice and really do a good job of locking in and understanding what we are trying to do.

The Lady Wolves return to action on Friday at home versus the Edgemont Moguls and then travel to Lusk on Saturday. Come out and support your Moorcroft Wolves!
