Lady Wolves: locked and focused

On Friday night, the Big Horn Rams came to town. The Lady Wolves Junior Varsity team got first shot and came out and played well. Coach Hulm was happy with the effort and intensity on the defensive end. They took a 19-13 lead into the half before closing the game out with a 44-29 win.

Varsity was the next game up. Big Horn got out to a quick start before the Wolves responded. Big Horn took a narrow 25-22 lead into the half.

The Wolves struggled with their offense in the third quarter and were able to get back into the game early in the fourth quarter, but ended up losing the game, 61-43.

We came out a little flat right away and really struggled finding our rhythm on offense. Offensively, we struggled and didn’t get the stops that we needed to on the defensive end. It was a good learning experience for us.

Saturday’s home contest involved the Wright Panthers. Wright JV only had enough girls for two quarters of basketball.

The Lady Wolves JV team got off to a good start, ending the first quarter up 9-4. The second quarter was back and forth before the game ended with Wright leading, 19-15.

Coach Hulm felt the execution could have been better at the end of the second quarter. He felt they gave up some easy shots towards the end, but they, as a team, can improve on that.

The Varsity team followed. Neither team was able to gain much distance in the first quarter, but in the second, the Wolves outscored Wright, 20 to 7 and took a 37-22 lead into the half.

The second half was much of the same as the Wolves got a 64-37 victory. I thought that we really responded well coming out of a loss from the night before.

The girls were locked in and focused on the task at hand. We moved the ball well on the offensive end and got the shots that we wanted. Defensively, our pressure created turnovers that we were able to convert.

The Lady Wolves return to action for their last regular season game against Sundance on Friday night. Games will begin at 2:30 p.m. This will also be Senior Recognition Night. Come out and support your Moorcroft Wolves!
