Encouraging area seniors on May Day

Answering a knock on their door, local seniors were surprised Friday to be greeted by the smiling faces of volunteers Mary Joselyn and Rosalie Brimmer delivering brown lunch sacks with May Day goodies inside.

Joselyn wanted to do something for the older people closed in, both those who would usually attend the senior center and those who do not. “I decided to do May Day bags and give them to our seniors to make their day a happy day. I want them to know that we are here for them.”

Within the bags were home baked cookies donated by Donna Ricks, Penny Cruikshank and Nancy Feehan, a generous handful of jelly beans and packets of flower seeds along with the Crook County Senior Services (CCSS) news letter. Mary advises those who do not want the seeds to “pass them on to somebody who does”.

The women, driving the van provided by CCSS, who cosponsored the effort, delivered 40 May Day bags.
