Phased reopening of Devils Tower begins
May 21, 2020
Following guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state and local public health authorities, Devils Tower National Monument will resume recreational access to some park facilities. The National Park Service (NPS) is working with federal, state and local public health authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and is using a phased approach to increase access on a park-by-park basis.
Beginning Friday, May 22, Devils Tower will reopen access to:
• Park roads, hiking trails, picnic area, and rock climbing routes.
With public health in mind, the following facilities remain closed until further notice:
• Belle Fourche River Campground
• Devils Tower Visitor Center
• Devils Tower Natural History Association Bookstore
The health and safety of park visitors, employees, volunteers and partners continues to be paramount. At Devils Tower, staff continue to examine each facility function and service provided to ensure those operations comply with current public health guidance.
Park operations will be significantly different this year and visitors will need to be prepared for limited services. When recreating, the public should follow local area health orders, practice Leave No Trace principles and avoid crowding.
To better prepare for a visit to Devils Tower or to visit from home, see the park website.
