Food pantry numbers rise

The Moorcroft Interfaith Community (MIC) released the numbers for their regular and Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies Mobile food pantries for the month of August, 2020. And numbers continue to go up as they see more new families coming in for food.

“Each week we are meeting new families, “says MIC President, Rev. Monte Reichenberg. “They are families that have either had one or more family members laid off or suffered a reduction in salary due to COVID-19. They have been getting by on savings, but now those savings are running out causing the families to start searching for help.”

“And that’s what we are here for,” says MIC Treasurer Walter Campbell. “We are saddened and concerned by the numbers of families who are still being so adversely affected by problems stemming from this [COVID-19] problem, but we are praising God for His great provision.”

The MIC officers went on to thank the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies (WFBR, PreCorp Foundation, Gillette Salvation Army and the congregations and individuals who have helped make the food pantries possible.

In August alone, the MIC Regular pantries, held on the first and third Thursdays of each month reached a total of 409 families representing 225 Seniors (60 and up), 513 adults (18-59) and 646 children (0-17) for a total of 1384 individuals. At the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies County Wide Mobile Pantry, 192 families were assisted representing 81 seniors, 273 adults and 308 children for an additional 662 individuals impacted.

In additions, MIC also provided Totes of Hope for kids, which reached 95 more children. That lifts the total clients helped in August up to 2244 individuals, which is a record high number once again.

The next free WFBR County Wide Mobile Pantry will be Thursday, September 16, 2020 at the Moorcroft Town Center south parking lot 101 S. Belle Fourche Ave. in Moorcroft. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All of Crook County, Rozet and Upton areas are welcome. The next Regular MIC pantry is scheduled for Thursday, September 17, at the MTC from 4 to 6 p.m.
