Wolves help clean up

The Moorcroft High School Football team volunteered to clean the pasture area around the municipal landfill last Thursday morning. The Wolves worked for several hours before going home around 11 a.m. to a well-deserved lunch.

The group filled many bags of garbage and covered an area of more than two miles from the freeway to the landfill.

The Wolves are assisting with a problem that Moorcroft Public Works has been fighting for some time: the flying debris picked up by wind and contaminating the surrounding pasture lands. To mitigate the flying trash from escaping the fenced area around the vertical expansion, the town has implemented a strategy of utilizing a smaller “face”, working within a smaller area at a time to better control the situation with compacting and burying, but the problem persists.

Public Works Director Cory Allison reported that the crews are “in the process of building panels to help catch [the flying debris]” as well and, while not solving the situation, should further help control it.

However, the team may be called upon again eventually, to help clean up the area.
