MCDC keep Moorcroft area signage shining

On Sunday, September 13, the Moorcroft Community Development Committee (MCDC) restored the Devils Tower sign located north of town on State Highway 14.

Committee member Ken Newby and volunteer Paul Smoot (son of long time resident Robert Smoot) power-washed the sign to prepare it for its second restoration, the first one being 2004 when Jeff Freyholtz repainted. The work was accomplished with a grant from the Wyoming Community Foundation, which was awarded in 2019.

MCDC secretary Ruthele Newby commended the Moorcroft community “who supported our local activities such as community auctions, yard sales and game feeds. This gave us the matching cash to apply for these grant funds”.

The MCDC erected this sign in the fall of 1994 and, with the aid of grants and matching funds for which the committee applied, this and the entrance signage around the town was purchased.

“In the future,” says Newby, “our committee plans to do projects as they appear.”
