Train strikes tanker trailer

On October 1, at approximately 12:29 p.m., emergency services responded to a report of a collision between an eastbound BNSF train and a tractor trailer belonging to Windon Transport out of Hudson, CO on the Belle Fourche River Road west of Moorcroft.

The initial investigation determined that there was minimal damage to the rear of the trailer and the front of the train locomotive.

At the time of the crash, the locomotive struck the rear of the trailer as the driver was crossing the track, traveling north towards Highway 51 from the Moorcroft sewer lagoon hauling dredged sewer.

The driver of the tractor trailer unit was not injured and was cited by a Crook County Sheriff’s Deputy for failure to yield after stopping at a stop sign.

The Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Moorcroft Police Department, Moorcroft Fire Department and Moorcroft EMS responded to the crash and the collision was investigated by the Crook County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Moorcroft Police Department.
