Record numbers take advantage of November food pantries

The Moorcroft Interfaith Community released its food pantry figures for November.

“Our numbers continue to climb substantially,” says MIC President Rev. Monte Reichenberg. “We saw substantial increases in both our regular food pantries held on the first and third Thursdays of each month and the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies Crook County Mobile Pantry held on the second Thursday of each month.”

The regular pantries for November served a total of 449 families representing 1572 individuals of which 749 were children (0-17), 648 adults (18-59) and 175 seniors (60 and up).

According to Reichenberg, the monthly mobile pantries, which draw families from Weston and Campbell Counties as well as Crook County, have continued to grow since they first started in March of 2020.

“In March we served 71 families and those numbers have gone up each month,” he says. “For November, the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies (WFBR) Crook County Wide Mobile Food Pantry, which is partially funded by donations from the Powder River Energy Corporation Foundation, reached 290 families representing 967 individuals. Of those, 439 were children, 395 adults, and 133 seniors.”

Because of the growth, the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies has announced that it plans to up the food shipment to 325 families for December.
