Family Ice Fishing Day postponed

For the last five years, the Family Ice Fishing Party on Keyhole Reservoir has been a favorite destination for families and friends from all over the state and beyond, with guests numbering between 300- 500.

This year, because of the higher temperatures, the ice is not safe for a gathering of so many so, after considering the situation, party organizer Justin Hawkins has postponed the event to 2022.

“It was a tough decision and I waited as long as possible to make the call. This is not the end for future ice parties, just a hiccup during these strange times,” he says.

Keyhole superintendent Wade Henderson describes conditions as improving, though people are still cautioned to watch for pressure ridges that have shown up in unprecedented numbers this year. With 8-10 inches being reported, die-hard fishermen are driving onto the ice and setting up their huts.
