Wolves beat Panthers at conference

On Thursday, the Wolves boys basketball team traveled to Big Horn to take on the Rams in their first conference game of the season.

The boys got off to a sluggish start and trailed after the first quarter, 17-8. In the second, we played a little better offensively, but were still behind going into half, 35-20.

Big Horn hit some long threes in the third quarter and pushed their lead to 54-29 entering the fourth. The fourth was back and forth and the Rams came out on top, 68-46.

We didn’t handle their pressure well, were out-rebounded and didn’t shoot the basketball well. We knew going in we were going to have to keep them off the boards, but their athleticism and size bothered us. The boys played very hard and kept battling the whole game.

Moorcroft’s high scorers include Lane Wood 4, 2, 3-3/ 17; Zane Linder 3, 1-4/ 7; Daniel Bryant 2, 1-2/ 5; Chaz Dewey 2, 1 /7; Gavin Bohanon 2-3/ 2; Jadon Weeda 1/ 2; and Clay Stripp 2/ 6.

Big Horn: James Richards 16, Cade Baker 4, Garrett Custis 12, Wyatt Brown 1, Carson Bates 4, Toby Schons 9, Cade Butler 12, Cooper Garber 6.

On Saturday, the Wolves traveled to Wright to take on the Panthers in their second conference game of the season. The Wolves jumped out early on the Panthers and took a 37-28 lead into halftime. The team came out in the second half and played well and went on to win the game, 72-58.

I thought we played our best game of the season offensively. We ran the court well and finished in transition.

We shot the ball well and our defense created some easy baskets for us. I was very pleased with the effort.

Moorcroft’s high scorers are Caden Connally 1, 1, 4-6 / 9; Lane Wood 7, 1, 2-6/ 19; Zane Linder 2, 5-11/ 9; Cole Stripp 2,2/ 10; Daniel Bryant 4, 1-4/ 9; Gavin Bohanon 1, 2-4/ 4; and Clay Stripp 1, 1, 7-8/ 12.
