Lady Wolves head to state

On Thursday, the Lady Wolves headed to the District Tournament in Wright.

The Lady Wolves took on the Big Horn Rams in the first game of the day. The first quarter saw neither team able to get much going until midway through when the Lady Wolves were able to get some steals and convert.

The Wolves led, 25-13 going into the half. We made some adjustments on the defensive end with our rotations and we were more effective in the second half. The Lady Wolves came out with a 56-31 victory.

I think we had some nerves in the first quarter but once those went away, we came out and played the way we do.

The second game of the day saw the Lady Wolves squaring off with a familiar opponent, the Sundance Bulldogs. Sundance jumped out to an early 16-9 lead after the first quarter.

The Wolves defense held Sundance to only 4 points in the second quarter, but found themselves down, 20-19. The second half was much of a stalemate with neither team able to gain distance. The Wolves battled, but came up short, 40-38.

We didn’t shoot it as well as we normally do. I thought our defense was good and our effort is always there.

The Lady Wolves traveled to Big Horn for the Regional contest versus the Pine Bluffs Hornets. Moorcroft got out to the start it wanted and led, 22-10 at the end of the first quarter. Pine Bluffs came back, but the Lady Wolves took a 32-25 lead into the half.

The second half was all Wolves. The Wolves put up 17 points in the third quarter and 19 points in the fourth quarter for a 68-44 victory.

I was really happy with how we responded from our last game. We did a great job on defense and on offense, we were patient and got the shots that we wanted and converted them.

The Lady Wolves head to their second consecutive State Basketball Tournament on Thursday and will play the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies in the first game on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. at Casper College. Come out and support your Moorcroft Wolves!
