Wolves bring home medals from regionals

The Moorcroft Wolves traveled to Torrington for the 2A Regional Track and Field Meet on May 14-15. For the first race of the meet, Mallory Jones, Kaylee Terry, Amasa Gerstner and Kane Goff ran the 800 meter run.

Jones brought home the silver medal with her second-place finish with the time of 2:30.82. Terry finished in fourth place and Gerstner ran a good race and finished with the time of 3:05.67 but was not in scoring contention. Goff came in 14th in the men’s race with a time of 2:29.34. Jones and Terry both qualified for State competition. 

Char Cranston and Katelynn Blakeman ran the 100 meter hurdles in the preliminary race and both qualified for the finals and State competition. In the finals, Blakeman brought home the bronze medal with her third-place finish with the time of 18.46.

Cranston snatched up fourth place with the time of 18.49. 

In the 100 meter dash, Natalee Scribner finished with a time of 14.60, Blakeman finished with a time of 14.63, Kyan Meek finished in 16.67 and Angel Zahn finished in 18.06.  Kaden Haynes and James Long ran in the men’s 100 meter dash. Haynes finished in a time of 13.14 and Long in 14.12. Unfortunately, none qualified for finals. 

Cranston performed in the 300 meter hurdles race and advanced to the finals, and secured a spot at State, where she finished in fourth place with a time of 50.47. Dakota Tobin, Long, Wyatt Allred, Isaiah Erickson and Richard “Richie” Allison “put” the heavy metal sphere. Tobin put the shot 34’10”, Long 28’4”, Allred 25’7”, Erickson 25’2”, and Allison 21’8.5”.

In the 200 meter dash, Terry, Blakeman, Scribner, Joslyn VonOlnhausen, Meek, Zahn, Haynes and Long ran their best race. Terry advanced to the finals, and State, where she placed seventh with a time of 28.70.

Blakeman finished in 29.93, Scribner in 31.24, VonOlnhausen in 31.68, Meek in 35.29 and Zahn in 40.89. In the men’s race, Haynes finished in 27.13 and Long finished in 28.01.

Jones and Marcus James performed in the 3200 meter run. Mallory took charge from the gun and beat second place by over two minutes, lapping her nearest competitor.

She crushed the 2A Regional Track Meet record that was held since 2005. The record sat at 12:15 and Mallory brought home the gold medal and a first place-finish with an impressive run of 11:48.22.

James narrowly missed qualifying for State with a time of 11:56.62 taking home a tenth-place finish.

In the 400 meter dash, Terry, VonOlnhausen, Goff and Allred ran good races, of which Kaylee made it to the finals and brought home the bronze medal and took third place with a time of 1:03.72 and VonOlnhausen finished in 15th in 1:17.05. In the men’s race, Goff took 15th in 1:06.11 and Allred took 17th with 1:09.17.

The women’s sprint medley (2-2-4-8) team of Blakeman, Cranston, Terry and Jones came home with the silver medal with their second-place finish with a time of 4:41.93. The men’s sprint medley team of Haynes, Long, Goff and James earned seventh place with a time of 4:42.90.

Cranston, Scribner and VonOlnhausen leapt to new heights in the long jump, advancing to the finals where Cranston took fourth place with a leap of 14’6”, Scribner jumped 13’6” giving her eighth place and the last qualifying spot for State and VonOlnhausen missed placing for State by two inches, finishing ninth place overall with a jump of 13’4”.

In the discus throw, Tobin threw 83’8”, Erickson threw 66”6”, Allison threw 63’4” and Allred threw 59’0”.

Jones, Gerstner, James and Goff performed in the 1600 meter run. In the women’s race, Jones ran away with first place and the gold medal with a time of 5:30.09, Gerstner took 11th place with a time of 7:23.59. In the men’s race, James finished in 14th Place with a time of 5:49.04 and Goff finished 15th with a time of 5:58.44.

The State qualifiers are: Katelynn Blakeman, Char Cranston, Kaylee Terry, Mallory Jones, Joslyn VonOlnhausen and Natalee Scribner all qualified in separate sprint medley relay races. VonOlnhausen and Scribner are medley relay alternates.

In addition to the sprint medley, Scribner qualified and will compete in the long jump, Blakeman qualified in the 100 meter hurdles, Cranston qualified in the 300 meter hurdles and the long jump, Terry qualified in the 200, 400 and 800 meter runs and Jones qualified in the 800, 1600 and 3200 Meter Runs. The State competition is set for May 20-22, 2021.
