The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming

Free ice cream

The Moorcroft Interfaith Community (MIC) is hosting Free Ice Cream Friday, starting July 2 at Donna’s Diner. Ice cream will be served free for kids up to 18 years old and seniors older than 59 from 1 p.m.

The MIC hopes to spread the word about the Totes for Hope summer assistance program and where the packages can be located, ensuring Crook County children have food even when they aren’t in school with this reoccurring tasty treat event.

Co-organizer Monte Reikhenberg explains the circumstances that started this endeavor, “When we started our food pantries in 2018 county statistics indicated there were 483 children in Crook County who did not know where their next meal was coming from. That was a statistic that the Moorcroft interfaith Community found unacceptable. So the Bi-Monthly food pantries were started throughout the year and the Totes of Hope program was instituted to help provide food during the summer and for long holiday breaks during the school year.”

The totes are located at the library, police department, senior center and the West Texas Trail Museum. Kids up to 17 years old may walk into any of these places and request food - no questions will be asked,” Reikhenberg said. “They will be either be given a bag containing approximately seven meals and snacks at the police department or they can choose what they want to eat from items on hand at the other places of business during business hours.”

This program is in effect until school starts in late August.
