Raffle helps community

A while back, Emily Smith and husband Bill, who serve on the Pine Haven Town Council and Over The Hill Gang (senior group) committee board respectively, approached the “Gang” with an offer to donate a black powder rifle and pistol to be raffled off. Fellow resident Richard Wilkerson also contributed a “very nice” knife set with block for second place, according to spokesperson and event co-organizer Chris Bingham.

The gang then purchased a Paradise Foods $100 gift certificate for third place.

The winners were announced Sunday, July 4 at town hall. Bob Cobler won the guns; Jeff Lively took home the knife set; and Ronnie Feehan received the Paradise Foods gift certificate.

The gang decided to use the raffle to help the community center replace flooring in the building with $4000 of the proceeds, which is half the estimated cost of the job. Many other community members worked throughout the weekend to raise the rest of the funds needed to complete the new floor, which was finished before the following Sunday.

The remaining money from the Rifle Raffle will be used by the Pine Haven seniors for other needs.

The carpet was removed from the center and replaced with hardwood, enabling a better dance surface and cleaner look.

“Pine Haven residents and their neighbors, friends and families are truly very generous people who help our community so much whenever asked,” Said Bingham. “Definitely a reason we love living in Pine Haven and living in Small Town America!”
