Low turnout expedites public hearings

Business conducted by Moorcroft’s council at the two public hearings and the regular meeting Monday night was quickly dispatched by a three-man quorum, including Mayor Pro-Tem Ben Glenn with Councilmen Paul Smoot and Dale Petersen.

The first hearing was to address any questions or concerns regarding the proposed residential garbage pit and a construction and demolition (C&D) pit north and east of the scale house respectively at the municipal landfill. Neighboring rancher Ed Scott was the only guest to attend.

HDR Engineering’s Heath Turbiville explained the town is applying for a State Revolving Fund (SRF) loan to conduct “a site investigation and preliminary engineer’s report” of this possible future formation as well as closure of the existing cell.

“The existing landfill is nearing its conclusion,” he said.

After responding to Scott’s concerns regarding wind-blown trash and skunks, Glenn kept the hearing open for a few more minutes in case anyone else came in late before moving on to the next public hearing for the proposed splash pad at Nolan Park. No one attended this meeting.

Glenn expressed his disappointment in the lack of participation in these matters by members of the community, saying, “It would be nice to have some more input.”

The regular meeting held no surprises and concluded with an executive session within an hour of beginning.
