Finding her passion in paint

By Grace Moore

Cindy Mosteller has directed operations at the West Texas Trail Museum for several years, however she enjoys many interests, among which a focal one is painting with acrylics.

Her love of this medium began years ago when she attended a number of “paint and sip events” and has only increased as she has fed her passion by teaching adult painting classes during her years as a librarian in the Moorcroft Branch Public Library. “The instructor came once a month, I averaged ten [participants], but there was a time or two when we had 25.”

She and several of her painting companions still meet at the museum a couple times a month, “It’s fun to see the improvements we’ve made over the years and the challenges we still face –like flowers!”

“I like to experiment with bright bold colors and different sizes of canvas,” Mosteler shares her personal inclination in this medium, “[and] I enjoy relaxing and painting with friends.”

Over the years, Mosteler has given many of her pieces to people who have expressed appreciation, but there have also been cases of theft, “I’ve had my mother steal some of my favorites because they were her favorites, too.”

There are several examples of Mosteller’s work on display at the Moorcroft Senior Center on the south side of the MTC, on the corner of Converse and South Belle Fourche Avenue. Guests are welcome to walk through and enjoy her efforts between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. every weekday throughout the month of April.
