May's guest artist at the senior center

Trudy Durfee is this month's guest artist, showing her work at the Moorcroft Senior Center. Trudy is a lifetime resident of Crook County and many knew her during her 36 years with Sundance State Bank, from which she retired almost five years ago.

Even before her retirement, she was taking welding classes in adult education from Jim Pannell in Hulett, "I made some yard art with him and then, some others with Brian Kennah at Sundance."

Trudy has also taken wood working classes with Todd Hickman in Sundance and knitting at the senior center in Moorcroft and is part of a knitting group in Pine Haven.

"If there is a class on making most anything, I try to take it. I'm not good at any one thing, but I totally enjoy the trying to build something new with a new learned skill," Durfee says. She says she has a "blast" meeting new people as well.

There are several examples of her yard art, making seemingly fragile objects from industrial materials and shadow boxes showing a far more delicate scene among other mediums available for viewing at the Moorcroft Senior Center on the south side of the MTC. Guests are welcome during week days between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. throughout the month of May.

"Take it from someone who didn't think she could do anything," Trudy advises others. "Go to one class you think you might like to try and give it your best shot! It may not turn out as well as you would like, but because you got out and tried...makes it perfect."
