Council cuts back on meetings

After many years conducting the town’s business in two monthly meetings to comfortably get all agenda items covered, Moorcroft’s council is considering returning to one meeting a month in an effort to lessen costs.

Mayor Ben Glenn opened the discussion: “We’ve batted around going to one meeting a month again, does anybody have any thoughts on that?”

“One of the reasons we went to two is because of how long they were,” Councilman Dale Petersen remembered. “We don’t want to have 11-12 p.m. meetings [but] I’m good with trying it and if it doesn’t work out, we go back to two.”

Councilman Paul Smoot agreed, “I’m willing to try it. [One meeting month] worked pretty good for a while there…but we’ve been converting a lot of our ordinances by resolutions and that’s going to make a huge timesaver for us.”

“If we can switch it,” Glenn suggested, “Possibly, to the same day our lawyer’s here for court – that could save us some travel time.”

However, this would coincide to the second Tuesday of each month and would create an issue of timing for town attorney Pat Carpenter as well as HDR Engineering’s Heath Turbiville as Pine Haven as they both also attend Pine Haven’s council meeting on that day.

The second Wednesday evening was considered as an alternative, but without any defined response either way from his council, the mayor advised, “Let’s give that some thought and come back at it and see what everybody wants to do.”
