Ruffled feathers over chicken ordinance

At the Pine Haven Council meeting, a possible ordinance that allows chickens in town was raised again by a couple of concerned citizens. According to town Clerk/Treasurer Barb Hardy, however, there is no such municipal law at this time.

Town resident Larry Glenn spoke from the floor, saying that he was there because, “I was told last month that this [meeting] was going to be about that so I showed up tonight.” He explained that, while he wanted to discuss details of the proposed law, “I’m going to wait to get an official stance on it.”

Another resident, Chuck Garrett also stood on this account, saying, “I don’t believe in totalitarian enactment…Chickens, with the proper ordinance and control – they can’t be running wild through town – I just think it’s a good deal. I don’t actually want chickens, but, I think people should be allowed to have them.”

Mayor Karla Brandenburg responded to the question, closing the subject for now, “The council has not asked for an ordinance.”
