Wolves wrestle their way to State

The Wolves wrestling team wrestled in the Wyoming High School 2A East Regional tournament this past weekend for their chance to compete at the state tournament in Casper this Friday and Saturday. As a team, the Wolves placed first, came home with four individual regional champions, many placers and qualified 22nd for the state tournament. Individual placers were:

Champions: 106 Dayne Humes pinned his way into the finals, where he won by no contest to take the championship; 152 Chris Boardman pinned his way into the finals, where he won by tech fall, 15-0, to take the championship; 160 Braizyn Humpal pinned his way into the semifinals, where he won by decision, 7-4, to advance into the finals. There, he won with a pin in 4:19 to take the championship; 220 Oliver Gorsuch pinned his way into the finals, where he won with a pin in 2:19 to take first place.

Second Place: 106 Kade Haynes made his way into the finals with a pin and a major decision, 10-0, where he lost by no contest to place second; 126 Braydnn Terry pinned his way into the finals, where he had a tough match and lost by decision; 145 Trenton Sheehan pinned his way into the semifinals, where he won by decision, 7-0, to advance into the finals, where he had a great match, but lost to place second; 170 James Long went 3-1, pinning his way into the finals, where he lost by fall to place second.

Third Place: 120 Kaden Haynes went 3-2, losing in the semifinals, won his consolation semifinals to go into the placings, where he won to place third; 138 Trenten Gray lost in the semifinals, but came back, winning his next two matches with a pin and by decision, 11-5, to place third; 195 Dane Connally lost his semifinals match to put him into the placings, where he won with a pin in 1:38 to place third.

Fourth Place: 113 Weston Haskell lost in the semifinals, won in the consolation semifinals to put him in for the placings, where he lost to place fourth; 132 Cade Williams went 2-2, winning in the quarters and his consolation semifinals matches, both by pin, to put him in for placing, where he lost to place fourth.

Fifth Place: 160 Spencer Cuthrell went 2-2, winning his consolation round with a pin in 0:48.

Seventh Place: 113 Adam Cuthrell went 1-2 to place and qualify; 138 Richie Allison pinned his way into the semifinals, where he lost by decision, 10-6 and lost in the consolation semifinals by decision, 6-5.

Eighth Place: 120 Shane Hannah went 1-2; 126 Wyatt Pennington went 3-2; 132 Tucker Cook went 1-2, winning his first match by pin; 145 Riley DeHaven went 3-2, losing in the quarterfinals, but won his next two consolation matches by tech fall, 16-0 and by decision, 8-2, but lost in the consolation semifinals; 152 Marcus James went 2-2, winning his first two matches with a pin, losing in the semifinals and consolation semifinals by decisions; 182 Wyatt Allred went 1-2, winning his first match by pin in 1:25.

As a team, the Wolves placed first with 224 team points followed by second place Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast with 104.5 and third place Saratoga with 106.0 points.

High scorers were Chris Boardman with 27.5 points, Braizyn Humpal with 26 and Oliver Gorsuch with 24 team points. Individual stats were Braizyn Humpal placed second for the fastest fall in :19 seconds and Cade Williams placed fifth with a pin in :24 seconds.

Having the most pins in the least amount of time, Chris Boardman placed fourth with three pins in 3:41, Oliver Gorsuch placed fourth with three pins in 4:10 and Braizyn Humpal placed seventh with three pins in 6:33.

Next up for the Wolves is the state tournament in Casper this Friday and Saturday, February 24-25, at the Ford Wyoming Center.

The Lady Wolves wrestling team will be headed to the first Wyoming High School Girls State Championships tournament to start on Thursday, February 23, at the Ford Wyoming Center. Those wrestling are: 105 Daytona Hannah, 110 Rebekah Anderson, 120 Nadia Harding, 125 Janika Baron and 145 Aurora Studie.
