Town makes room for Country Junkin'

Moorcroft Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) spokesman Neil Gray spoke to the council last Wednesday night about moving certain participants of the Country Junkin’ event to a better outlet for their goods.

He requested an interruption of travel along North Big Horn for approximately half a block, blocking from the corner at the West Texas Trail Museum south to Gifts, Thrifts and Ifts, between the medical clinic and post office, maintaining access to these two essential agencies.

This portion of roadway would be closed from Friday, June 2, at 7 a.m. until Saturday, June 3, at 5 p.m. Gray said that there were fewer sellers on Sunday and they would be encouraged to set up on the sidewalk.

Country Junkin’ is the annual weekend countywide community garage sale event that has been sponsored for the last four years by Crook County’s chambers of commerce.

MACC hopes to create a central location for the event this year to assist those who live in more isolated or hard to find areas to be more accessible to interested buyers, “So everybody who would like to have a garage sale, but doesn’t want to have it at their house, can bring it to a central location and leave the booth set up overnight so they don’t have to haul it back and [forth]…and we would provide security overnight.”

Councilman Stewart voiced his approval, saying, “I think it’s good deal for everybody around and it’s not going to interfere with the post office or the clinic.”

With no concern expressed, the closure was approved unanimously.

This year’s event will be held on June 2-4 and a flyer will be distributed in the near future with more information.
