Laura Jean Moller

Laura Jean (Holmes) Moller, 68, of Spearfish, South Dakota, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous five-year battle with cancer on October 12, 2024.

Laura was born June 15, 1956, in Valentine, Nebraska, to Verl and Gwendolyn Holmes of Mission, South Dakota. She was the only child and grew up on the Holmes' ranch near Mission, graduating from Todd County High School in Mission.

During her early years, she loved living the country life and especially enjoyed horseback riding, making mud pies and playing with her dolls. She grew up with many cousins nearby, who were all boys, and taught her how to play games – boys' games!

After graduating from Todd County High School in Mission, she went on to graduate from Northwestern Vo Tech, in Sturgis, South Dakota. It was here that she met her future husband, Gerald Moller.

She and Gerald were married September 11, 1976. To this union, two children were born, Kelli Christine in 1981 and Daleri Ann in 1987.

Laura and Gerald celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary this past September 11, 2024.

Laura worked in the medical field most of her adult life, working in hospitals and clinics in Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming. She loved music and her church. She was a church organist for 52 years.

She also enjoyed quilting and sewing, making clothes, quilts, table runners, potholders, etc. for family and friends. Her latest sewing/quilting project was making quilts for animals in local pet shelters.

In her spare time, she also enjoyed playing table and card games with family and friends. She got so good at playing cribbage, she actually skunked Gerald a couple of times!

Laura is survived by her husband, Gerald; daughters, Daleri Moller (Spearfish), Kelli Moller and her significant other, Jason Schoenthal (Rapid City); grandson, Blake Brunson (Rapid City); her many cousins and close friends; her dog Jett; and a very close/special friend, Fran Francis who was by her side throughout her entire journey to Heaven.

Laura truly had a heart of gold and loved her friends and family very much. She was kind and generous and always had everyone's well-being in mind. She will truly be missed!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Verl and Gwendolyn Holmes.

A cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be announced at a later date.
