Towns feel loss of SPOT tax

Impacts from the tax failing to pass will include maintenance slow-down, hold on new projects

The towns of Moorcroft and Pine Haven will soon feel the effects of the loss of the Specific Purpose Options Tax. Known as SPOT, it has been used to raise extra revenue for counties and towns since it was authorized by the legislature in 1984.

Crook County voters were asked at this year’s general election to consider another round, which failed with 2027 people voting for it and 2061 against. With the failure of the SPOT tax, citizens will start to notice repairs and maintenance being postponed.
