Police chief clarifies snow routes

With the clarification of the ordinance for the municipal snow routes, Moorcroft Chief of Police Bill Bryant wants citizens to have a clear understanding of the changes. A few weeks ago, the town installed new signs saying that there would be no parking allowed on these routes from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. starting November 1 to April 1.

This is to ensure streets are clear of vehicles allowing plows and emergency equipment passage without interruption.

This order is in effect regardless of snow, making the law easier to follow and enforce. The chief hopes to mitigate any problems as people find other parking spaces for their vehicles throughout these months during the day. “We don’t want to have to write a bunch of tickets this year,” he says.

Residents of South Belle Fourche will notice, though, that the signage on their street will soon be removed as that particular route has been officially abandoned as a snow route and they are not obliged to move their automobiles.
