April 22, 2021

Nola Mex Maxon was born on July 1, 1935 to Emerson and Maurine (Boock) Olson in Bijou Hills, SD. Nola grew up on her parents’ farm in Ola, SD. She went to country school, then to Chamberlain High School, and graduated in 1954.

Nola married Larry Maxon on July 6, 1954 at the Pukwana Lutheran Church. They lived in Chamberlain, where she worked for JCPenney, Community Bailey Hospital and H. L. Hollman Law offices until she retired in 2007.

Nola was a compassionate and giving person who enjoyed helping and caring for family and friends throughout her life. She loved to cook and make salads, which was her specialty.

She was always organized in everything she did. She was part of the Red Hat Society and loved having lunches and dinner with her friends and never wanted to miss a meeting.

Nola passed away April 1, 2021 at the Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain, SD at the age of 85. Grateful for sharing her life are her children Don and wife Debbie Maxon of Sioux Falls, SD and Jim and wife Marla Maxon of Chamberlain, SD; sister Lyla Adams of Moorcroft, WY; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Larry, son Gary, sister Connie and two brothers, Ray and Lynn.
