Budding season

The Moorcroft Community Gardens face the unusually warm June weather with color and life as all but five of the 8 x 4 x 3 boxes are groomed and planted with this summer’s crops. Two of the three “Garden Gnomes” who were working with their baby plants last Friday morning talked about how the enterprise is coming along. The grapes and clematis are coming back strong along the fence and the Virginia Creepers planted a few years ago to cover the gazebo have reached the monkey bars. “Our plan [is] to have them go over the top of it, creating “living shade,” this is the third year and they’re finally starting to [meet the metal],” said one gnome, Mary Joslyn (pictured above). Marge Reed, another gnome, opined when asked her thoughts on the unusually high temperatures this planting season that, “I think, gardeners and farmers should be original members of Gamblers Anonymous.”
