Celebrating Jubilee

Moorcroft will be celebrating the 56th Jubilee on July 9-11 and everyone’s invited!

Friday

The festivities start Friday evening at 5 p.m. with the Show and Shine Car Show at Robinson’s Park and the Ranch Rodeo at the arena next to the rest area west of town.

Saturday

For those who get up early, a prayer for America will be conducted around the flagpole on South Big Horn Avenue at 6:30 a.m. before everyone meets for a hardy chuckwagon breakfast at the West Texas Museum on Weston Street north of Diehl’s Supermarket at 7 and will last until 9.

There will be the three mile color walk/run starting at Robison at 7:30 for people who want a bit of exercise before they eat.

The parade starts its progression through town at 10 a.m. traveling from the north end of Big Horn Avenue to the south end. Slather on the sunscreen and remind the kids to bring a sack for all the candy that will handed out! No candy is to be thrown from floats or vehicles as per Moorcroft Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) in the interest of child safety.

Now that everyone has worked up an appetite, grab a paper plate and fill up on a delicious barbecue lunch at the fire hall at noon.

The ice cream social is the place to be for a sweet treat and a lazy bit of time in the shade of the trees at Robinson Park. The American Legion Auxiliaries will start serving at 1 p.m. People can enjoy the volleyball tournament, too, as teams will be facing off from 1 until 5 p.m. on the other side of the park.

So many choices! MHS wrestlers are hosting a cornhole tournament at the same time on Big Horn Avenue, on the south side of Family Dentistry.

For history buffs, young and old, Virginia born Tom Pitz will be depicting Thomas Jefferson at the West Texas Trail Museum at 2 p.m. Kids will also have a blast at the splash bash at Robinson Park from 2 p.m. until 5.

Auctioneer Chuck Wood will be selling a few special items at 5 p.m. on Big Horn Avenue before the relay races start at 6.

And for those who have been waiting all day for the dance, the band “He Said She Said” presented by Colt 45 Entertainment will start lighting up the night at 8 p.m.

Sunday

After a lazy morning to recover and relax, there will be an all denominational church service at Robinson Park at 10:30 a.m. followed by a carry-in lunch at 11 with the meat and drinks provided by the chamber.
