A Rapid City woman has been charged with a felony count of theft after allegedly taking a pickup that had been left running in a parking lot in Beulah.
On November 21, a Crook County Sheriff’s Office deputy received a report of a stolen pickup from State Line Station.
The witness informed the deputy that he saw a female, later identified as Oksana Brush, walking down the frontage road. She allegedly came up to the window of his pickup and asked if she “could stay on his couch, it would save her life.”
The witness reported that he declined her request and she walked away.
The witness then backed out of his parking spot and allegedly witnessed a white pickup that he recognized as belonging to a person he knew speed out of the parking lot.
The witness told the deputy that he then ran into the store and found the owner, who confirmed there was nobody in his pickup and he had left it running in the parking lot. The two men called 911 to report that it had been stolen.
The owner of the pickup also reported that a handgun and his cell phone were inside the pickup. Dispatch had the phone company ping the phone, which came back with a location near Gillette.
Law enforcement in that area were given the information and a Wyoming Highway Patrol was able to locate the vehicle near mile marker 88 on I-90. The vehicle was stopped and confirmed as stolen, and Brush was detained and transported to the Crook County Detention Center.
Brush has been charged with a felony count of theft, which carries a maximum penalty of ten years of incarceration, a $10,000 fine or both.
