Council hears project progress

Members of the Moorcroft Council were all seated for this month’s session. After confirming the bill list, departments made their reports, including information on progress for the splash pad and the master community plan.

Clerk/Treasurer Cheryl Schneider reported on the water works the town hopes to install at Noonan Park next summer.

“I’ve been working on the grant application [and] we put a public survey out on our web page and advertised on social media for public input,” she said.

Boxes for the same purpose was set out in the post office and grocery store as well. The clerk’s office received 82 responses regarding residents’ desire for the water play set; of these 76 “were in favor of a splash-pad”, five did not like the plan and one was a “maybe”.

Schneider applied to the Wyoming Land and Water and Conservation for a grant in November, telling the council, “It is the pre-application phase and questions are coming back that has to be answered.”

The next step will be an inspection of the property to ensure viability. “Brad Purcell from Keyhole State Park has volunteered to conduct the inspection,” she said.

The other project to complete is the Master Community Plan, in which town residents participated recently. The town must complete the final cost estimates proposed at the last public meeting.

After which, Rural Community Consultant Mike Hanson will send to the governing body the master plan in full to be examined and to add any final comments as desired. Once these steps are completed, the council will formally adopt the plan.

Both of these endeavors are anticipated to continue moving forward throughout the new year without issue.
