Pine Haven Mayor Karla Brandenburg and husband Charlie Gulley hosted their annual Carl Mirich Poker Tournament last Saturday. Brandenburg said of the event, "[It] was a success again [with] lots of old and new faces this year."

Thirty players sat in and around 30 others milled and socialized as the games became ever-more intense. At the end of the night, Pine Haven resident Dave Maxner stood alone as the final winner of the poker tournament.

There was, though, another winner: the Pine Haven Fire Department, receiving a donation from the event of $7000. This contribution came from game entrees and generous bids for locally sourced auction items gathered for the event by volunteer Darlene Gasner.

The hosts hope to see an additional donation from Powder River Energy after their board meeting at the end of the month, Brandenburg says.

Fire Chief TJ Gideon reported at last Tuesday night's meeting of council the department's need to purchase new bunker gear and radios for the 12-13 volunteers who have recently joined and the grant awarded to the department that will clothe seven of them.

The $7000 will help with buying bunker gear for the remaining new volunteers. The cost to gear up each firefighter is approximately $2500.
