Jackalope Jump

Randi Stevens, husband Mark and sons Collin and Brady came upon the annual Jackalope Jump quite by accident Saturday morning, having driven into the marina as they traveled around the reservoir.

According to Randi, "I'll gladly jump! Both my boys are special [and] we do a lot of advocacy back home in Louisiana."

She and Collin chose, on the spur of the moment, to join the fun and jump, too. "Anything for Special Olympics, we love it; they're a great support system."

With dry conditions affecting water levels, the regular dive on the closed east side of the platform was too shallow at barely five feet deep, so Keyhole Marina owner Phil Jordan guided organization volunteers to a deeper ingress for the plunge on the south side of the dock at a safer depth of eight feet.

The day's organizers said there were significantly fewer participants who registered than in previous years and only ten jumped. However, approximately $1600 cash was contributed at the event and an estimated $3000 was donated online.

After the spontaneous Stevens duo climbed out of the frigid water, Randi smiled and shared her thoughts, "It was very cold, but amazing! That was just so much fun – this made our day."
