Spring Clean-up Day sees impressive amount of trash removed from around town

The Moorcroft Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) hosted their annual Spring Clean-up Day last Thursday with the much-appreciated muscle of Moorcroft High School students and faculty.

The town allowed free dumping at the landfill again this year and public works crews assisted with hauling branches to the town slash pile. The chamber set up a site to deposit used oil and batteries and a bin for metal for recycling and many volunteers used their own pickups and trailers to carry debris to the various facilities.

The landfill was also opened for anyone with a water bill to dump for free the next day, encouraging residents to continue the cleanup; event coordinator Elaine Buckmiller noted that they did just that.

All together, ten loads of branches were delivered to the slash pile, one large load of mattresses and 15 loads of mixed trash went to the landfill, 15 batteries and 30 gallons of used oil were collected and two bins of steel were taken to Pacific Steel, according to Buckmiller.

Pinnacle Bank hosted a tasty repast for the hard working volunteers at the end of the successful morning and everybody ate and visited as they relaxed before the tired but smiling group broke up and went about the rest of their day.

A MACC representative later drove through town and said, "I think this event makes a difference in our town's appearance and I'm proud to be part of it."
