One stroke takes the win in Wright

On Friday, the Moorcroft Wolves Golf Team traveled to Wright for the two day Spring Championships. It wasn't the type of day that we would have liked to have from a weather standpoint, specifically the wind, and I don't think any of the players were happy with their scores when golf ended on Friday.

From a boys team perspective, we were seven shots out of the lead for the Powder River Conference Championship and sitting in fourth place for all of the 2A teams. We returned on Saturday to better weather and better scores. All of the Moorcroft participants shot better.

On the girls side, Camlyn Connally shot a 109 on Friday and a 98 on Saturday, for a total of 207. She finished in sixth place for 2A Girls and sixth place for the Powder River Conference. She also earned All Conference honors.

On the boys side, Cade Williams took low individual score for Moorcroft, shooting a 99 on Friday and a 94 on Saturday, for a total of 193. He finished 13th for 2A boys and sixth place for the Powder River Conference; also earning All Conference honors.

Zane Linder shot a 109 on Friday and took low individual score for Moorcroft on Saturday while carding a 90 for a 199 total. He was 16th for 2A boys and in seventh place for the Powder River Conference. Zane earned All Conference honors.

Dane Connally posted a 105 and a 94 for a 199 total. Dane was 17th for 2A boys and got eighth place for the Powder River Conference. He earned All Conference honors, too.

Cole Stripp shot a 130 on Friday and a 116 on Saturday and helped to seal the second straight Powder River Conference Championship by one stroke.

For the boys to be behind seven strokes on Friday and end up winning by one stroke on Saturday for the Powder River Championship says a lot about how they competed and knew what they needed to do. Each person was accountable to do what they knew they needed to do on Saturday and then they all went out and shot better than the day before. The boys also finished third for all of the 2A teams.

Overall, it would have been great to have more tournaments this spring but that was out of our control. These kids really competed on Friday and Saturday. It would have been easy to be upset with how Friday went, but they came back better, posted lower scores and had a good tournament.
