Volunteers needed

Quite often, the most important part of any program – the behind-the-scenes stuff – is conducted by volunteers. This is very much the case in Moorcroft, with many volunteer activities available for those who are interested in getting involved with their community.

A great way to meet other like-minded individuals is to get out and join in. Moorcroft has a place for everyone.

Volunteering is a great family effort, too; teaching youths the importance of stepping up and giving them the confidence to step out. Mayor Ben Glenn, who has volunteered his time and labor for many years among many lifelong friends of the same mind, recently spoke to the need for more volunteers.

"The age of volunteerism, I'm afraid, is getting old[er]; it would be nice to get some younger kids involved in the process," he says.

Local resident Andrea Wood agrees, considering the lack of community service as part of the school curriculum a disadvantage for students.

There are those, too, who see something that needs done and steps up without hesitation, like Kim Mead, who noticed the deplorable state of the Little Libraries in the town parks and announced her intentions of bringing them back to their former humble glory as a summer project.

Krissy Hinkhouse and her sister-in-law, Madison Petersen, have been volunteering for Jubilee Days since 2021. HInkhouse has this to say about the experience: "We just started to brainstorm a whole bunch of ideas and additions for Jubilee [and] this year, we've taken the reins and have really enjoyed doing it. We have big dreams for Jubilee Days and hope to continue to grow it!"

This summer is a great time to start the adventure, with a plethora of options from which to choose.

For sports fans, Moorcroft has a great baseball club and, with the lower of two fields completed, the club organizers are starting work on the upper field for older players. Hinkhouse says the time is right to get involved.

"We're reworking the top field, cleaning up the storage rooms, and hoping to clean up concessions and the dugouts. Next year, we're looking to have more participation in our teams and will definitely be needing volunteers for coaches, umpires and concession stand help," she says.
