Firefighters battle in sub-zero temps

At approximately 1 p.m. on Friday, December 23, a call came into the 911 dispatch about a structure fire in Pine Haven. Pine Haven's volunteer firefighters responded and, realizing the scope of the blaze, Pine Haven Fire Chief TJ Gideon requested assistance from Moorcroft, who immediately deployed to help.

Along with assistance from Sundance and accompanied by EMS from each community, the fire was curtailed from reaching any other structure.

The mobile home was totally consumed, but the two residents were not harmed and their cat, transported to a veterinarian, was saved. The local department provided these individuals with access to emergency help through the Red Cross.

According to Gideon, "Our biggest problem was the freezing temperatures...so we just kept swapping out firefighters."

A total of 15 firefighters fought the flames in shifts for five hours due to the negative double-digit temperatures. After the live burn was extinguished, "Pine Haven Fire monitored [the area] throughout the evening."

The cause of the blaze in undetermined at this time.
