Leader wins first major award

The Moorcroft Leader won its first ever major award during the Wyoming Press Association (WPA) annual convention over the weekend.

The Leader was named second among Wyoming’s small weekly newspapers for Typographical Excellence, which judges the overall appearance of the publication, including design and layout, photo and type reproduction and selection of type for news and advertising.

Judges commented, “Typography and design imparts a sense of community ownership. Moorcroft and Pine Haven should be proud of this quality, community publication.”

Also at the convention, Moorcroft Leader Publisher Jeff Moberg was elected to serve as the president of the Wyoming Press Association’s Board of Directors.

The WPA is a full-service trade association representing all 41 legal newspapers in the State of Wyoming, governed by a board of directors elected by its members.

Leader Editor Sarah Pridgeon became the first journalist from a small weekly newspaper to win the Jim Tiemann Memorial Legal Reporting Award.

This major award is presented jointly by the Wyoming Press Association and Wyoming State Bar Foundation and honors a writer for, “consistent excellence in a body of work on legal issues”, judged on clarity, quality, accuracy and knowledge of subject matter in stories dealing with legal issues.
